PUBLIC HEARING
FOOD SERVICE EQUIPMENT-INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAM
November 20, 2000
The hearing was called to order by President Flatgard at 7:00 p.m. in the High School ICN Room.
Roll call indicated the following members present: Bauer, Beitzel, Exline, Hunt, Zahradnik, and Flatgard. Absent: Ruprecht
Others in attendance were: Jerry Hightshoe, Dr. Mick Starcevich, and Al Rowe (administrators); Debbie Erenberger and Kay Pundt (teachers); Lee Meyer, Deb Meyer, Mary Jo Henry and Patty Pavic (parents); Melissa Meyer (student); and Janet Rorholm (Gazette).
The notice of the Public Hearing was published in the Cedar Rapids Gazette on November 1, 2000 (Instructional Support) and November 8, 2000 (Food Service Equipment).
11-20-00-01. Motion by Beitzel , seconded by Zahradnik to adopt the agenda as presented. Carried 6-0
No one in the audience spoke for or against the Instructional Support Program or the Food Service Equipment nor were any written objections received by the Board Secretary.
11-20-00-02. Motion by Exline, seconded by Zahradnik to participate in an instructional support program as provided in Iowa Code sections 257.18 through 257.21 and to provide additional funding therefore for a period of one (1) year commencing the fiscal year ending June 30, 2002. The additional funding for the instructional support for a budget year will not exceed three and one-half percent (3.5%) of the total regular program district costs for the budget year and moneys received under Iowa Code section 257.14 as a budget adjustment for the budget year. Moneys received by the District for the instructional support program may be used for the purpose of reducing K-12 class size and expanded professional development. November 20, 2000
The meeting was called to order by President Flatgard at 7:11 p.m. in the High School ICN Room.

Jim Steffen verified at the Board PresidentÕs request that the meeting notices had been posted in all administrative office and mailed to media as required by law.
11-20-00-05. Motion by Bauer, seconded by Beitzel to approve the agenda as presented. Carried 6-0
11-20-00-06. Motion by Bauer, seconded by Exline to approve the minutes of the Regular Meeting of October 16, 2000, the minutes of the Special Meeting of November 6, 2000, and the minutes of the Board Retreat of November 6, 2000; and to approve the Athletic Summary, Summary of Fund Balances, Summary of Expenditures, and Miscellaneous Revenue Report for October. Also, to approve the following list of bills: #39374 through #40183; and to void #38028, #38996, #39105, #39226, #39235, #39252, #39276, #39278, #39283, #39317, #39433, #39498, #39693, and #39711. Carried 6-0
The Board recognized three high school science teachers, Sharon Bender, Bill Schwarz and Laura Barden for grants that they had written.
The Board recognized Melissa Meyers, a student at the high school, for being selected by the American Miniature Horse Registry to serve as their National Princess, and Emily McConnell, an elementary student, who was honored for receiving a commendation at the state level of Invent Iowa.
The Board set the next Board visit to Prairie Heights on December 8, 2000 at 8:15 a.m.
Kay Pundt , high school counselor, and Jerry Hightshoe, high school associate principal, reviewed the Iowa Youth Survey. Patty Pavic, coordinator of the Parent-Community Network, explained how to get parents involved in the study and reminded those present of the meeting on November 28, 2000.
Al Rowe, Executive Director of Instruction, gave the Board an update on the Career Academy and will start at the beginning of the 2001-02 school year.

Motion by Bauer, seconded by Zahradnik to approve the resignations of Laura Gast (1/1 para at Prairie View effective 11/14), Otto Krueger (head girls soccer), Jerry Tennyson (bus driver effective 11/3), Michele Riechmann (color guard instructor effective 4/1/01), Aaron Allred (janitor at Prairie Crest effective 11/17), and Michael Raw (director of transportation effective 1/15/01); to approve the employment of Troy Hamilton (regular bus driver), Duane Carver (sub bus driver), Sarah Fletcher (wrestling cheerleading sponsor), and LeAnn Stennerson (assistant middle school volleyball coach); to approve leave of absences for Earl Northup (bus driver, unpaid January 15th through February 15th), Jennifer Anderson (teacher, unpaid under family medical leave January 22nd through February 23rd ) and Sheila Tibbott (teacher, unpaid under family medical leave November 27th through January 2nd ); and to approve employment for employees that have completed their 90 day probationary time periodÑDavid Dunshee (part-time janitor at Prairie View), Janelle Philipp (spec ed para at Prairie High), Peggy Jordan (spec ed para at Prairie High), Denise Feaker (success center para at Prairie High), Brenda Haendler (spec ed para at Prairie High), Christine Schulte (part-time spec ed para at Prairie Heights), Angela Stahle (spec ed para at Prairie Crest), Steven Van Horn (1/1 spec ed para at Prairie Middle), Lori Weeks (spec ed para at Prairie Middle), Jana Long (full-time cook at Prairie High), Daniel Schutte (parking lot supervisor/bus driver at Prairie High), Teresa Schumacher (spec ed para at Prairie Heights), Debra Rifner (study hall para at Prairie Middle), and Howard Rose (transportation part-time laborer). 11-20-00-11. Motion by Bauer, seconded by Zahradnik to accept the Prairie High School Parking Lot and make final payment to L.L. Pelling Co, Inc., in the amount $10,750.84. Carried 6-0
11-20-00-12. Motion by Bauer, seconded by Zahradnik to accept the Lower Road Paving Project and make final payment to L.L. Pelling Co. Inc., in the amount of $17,059.37. Carried 6-0
11-20-00-13. Motion by Beitzel seconded by Zahradnik to approve the 1999-2000 audit of Glifton Gunderson, P.L.C. and to place such on file in the district offices. Carried 6-0
11-20-00-14. Motion by Exline, seconded by Zahradnik to accept the bid of School Bus Sales of Waterloo for 4 TC 2000 Blue Bird Buses in the amount of $242,176 with an additional discount of $800 if we pick the buses up in Waterloo. Carried 6-0
11-20-00-15. Motion by Bauer, seconded by Beitzel to accept the bid of Taylor Industries of Des Moines for food service equipment at Prairie High School in the amount of $92,046.03. Carried 6-0
