Prairie Truck or Treat Cancelled for 2020

It is with extreme sadness that the annual PHS Key Club Trunk or Treat event will be cancelled for 2020. This is a fun event loved by PHS Key Club students as well as all of the elementary students who attended our event. This decision was based on current CDC and College Community School District’s health and safety guidelines. The safety of our students and PHS Key Club members is most important. We look forward to a bigger and better event in October of 2021.

College Community Schools is happy to announce that we are launching two new online systems. The first one is called In Touch Receipting which is an online payment system. The second one is called Titan Solutions which is where you will go to for your child’s lunch account information.

We are very excited about both of these system upgrades and hope that they will improve our ability to better serve families.

Welcome to Prairie Crest, Cindy Luzum!

Please help us welcome Cindy Luzum to Prairie Crest as one of our Preschool teachers!

This will be Miss Cindy’s 11th year teaching preschool.  She started in NE Iowa and has been at Prairie since 2014. In the past, she has also served as the district’s early childhood coach.  She earned her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood from UNI, Master’s in Early Childhood from UND and Master’s in Administration from Northwestern.

This year, she has been busy planning for her wedding on Aug. 29th to her fiancé, Matt. It has definitely been an interesting time planning, however, they are still super excited for their wedding day!  In her free time, she is active with the Cedar Rapids Jaycees, serving as a Vice President, being able to volunteer her time and give back to the community.  She also enjoys giving piano lessons, reading, cheering on the Packers, and traveling as much as possible!

Welcome to Prairie Crest, Libby Oliver!

Please help us welcome Libby Oliver to the Prairie Crest Family as our Special Ed Level II Teacher!

“I’m so excited to work with the Prairie Crest students and families this year! I love teaching and this will be my 7th year as a special education teacher. I started my teaching journey at the University of Iowa and then received my masters degree from Morningside College. I grew up and currently live in the Iowa City area with my husband (Matt), my son (Xavier) and our two dogs (Lola and Penny). My family and I love to spend time outside, listen to music, travel, visit friends and family, cook, camp, and many other things. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you and learning more about each one of you!”

Welcome Karen Skalsky to Crest!

We’d like to welcome Karen Skalsky as our new World Language teacher!

My name is Karen Skalsky and I’m thrilled to join the Prairie Crest community as a world language teacher!  I grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, completing my K-12 education in the Cedar Rapids School District and graduating from Jefferson High School in 2000.  I received my Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Coe College in 2004, with a 5-12 Spanish teaching endorsement, and a minor in music.  I have had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe, and I spent a semester studying abroad in Seville, Spain in 2002.  I returned to Coe College in 2011 to complete the requirements for an elementary education certificate, with K-8 endorsements in reading and Spanish.  I worked in the Cedar Rapids School District for 9 years, in the roles of paraprofessional, K-5 Spanish teacher and 3rd grade classroom teacher.  I have always had a passion for teaching language and strive to spark a love of language learning in my students.  Outside of school, I enjoy reading, card making, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  I’m excited to meet you and look forward to a terrific year!”

Volunteer Registration is OPEN!

You may complete the annual online volunteer registration form for the 2020-21 school year now! With rapidly changing Covid-19 circumstances, we will are not sure what volunteering at Prairie Schools will look like when we resume school, however, we will keep you informed of any changes in our volunteer program. You may still complete the annual form now so you are ready to go.
This annual form is required of all Prairie volunteers and only needs to be completed once per school year. Please remember that you must be an approved volunteer to chaperone field trips with your child.
Because the safety of our students, staff, volunteers and visitors, all volunteers are checked against a national sex-offender database and will have a criminal background check performed as part of the registration.
The volunteer registration process will take you to a very short orientation. After you read through the orientation information, click on the link at the bottom of the page to be taken to the registration form to complete and submit. This orientation information is helpful to long-time volunteers and those that are new to volunteering at College Community Schools.
