What is the Prairie Music Association?

The Prairie Music Association started out as the “Prairie Music Parents” in the mid-1970’s.  It originally existed as a volunteer support entity for the music programs of the district. In 1985, through the diligent and insightful leadership of the Prairie Music Parents, this group of volunteers sought out and eventually was awarded the status of a “Non-Profit Organization” under Chapter 504 of the Code of Iowa, and the corporation now known as the “Prairie Music Association” was born!

Today, the Prairie Music Association (PMA) is a non-profit Iowa corporation serving K-12 music programs of the College Community School District. PMA provides volunteer and financial support to advance K-12 music education throughout the district.  No other music booster organization in the state supports all grades throughout an entire school district.  PMA provides support for a broad range of educational endeavors within the District’s music programs. PMA helps equip K-12 students with uniforms, props, workshops, music lessons, instruments, music and varied performance opportunities.

Residents of the College Community School District can help support PMA through donations, volunteerism, purchasing fundraising items, or attending any of the K-12 music events throughout the school year.  Everyone is also cordially invited to attend PMA meetings and get involved.  There is a role for everyone and many great new friendships are formed.  Check out www.prairiemusic.com/ for more information about ways to help advance PMA.

Our second PMA meeting of the year will be held on September 10th at 6:00 PM in the H.S. Band room.  All parents are welcome to attend.
