While some 7th graders were out at camp, the others started applying for Washington D.C. money.  It's hard to believe that we are already planning for next year!

This Week at Prairie Point

The 2nd Annual Technology & Enrichment Expo was held at Point on Thursday during homeroom and after school. Students and guests were able to learn about and view the creative works of other Point students including Future Cities and LEGO League Teams, Engineering Design 3-D puzzles, Point Pride banners from Digital Arts Students, 8th grade Personified Poetry, Book Trailer Videos, plants from the Greenhouse Gang, and much more.   We even had some HS students share a glimpse of what's in store for some of our students by sharing their electric car! Thanks to everyone who participated and attended this special events to showcase the work of Point students.

The Prairie Point 8th grade FACS students visited homeless shelters in downtown Cedar Rapids this week.  The field trip is part of a 21st Century Accountability unit that is comprised of 3 parts: 1. Raising awareness of the local homeless situation by touring the shelters, 2. Practicing 21st Century Employability Skills by working in teams to produce quilts for donation to the homeless, 3. Utilizing newly acquired sewing skills to reuse and recycle fabric by designing and creating the quilts to give away.  This is the 11th year for the project that is part of the 8th grade Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum.  To date, over 1,000 quilts have been given to the needing in the greater Cedar Rapids area.

Our 7th Grade Reading students are reading "Wilfred".  As part of the learning, the students wrote or drew a good memory or a bad memory.  Here the can be seen "shredding" the bad memory, which symbolizes that the memory does not define them.

Technology and Enrichment Expo

Please plan to attend the 2nd Annual Technology and Enrichment Expo at Prairie Point on April 23rd from 2:00 – 5:30 PM. The event will showcase creative and exemplary work from Point students and extra-curricular clubs and teams. Many projects will show creative uses of technology. Exhibits will feature student work from all disciplines: Math, Science, Language Arts, Vocational fields, Enrichments and the Arts. Come help us celebrate the wonderful work that is going on here by our students. We’ll see you at the Expo!

We would like to thank Workplace Learning Connection for their collaboration with our Counseling staff.  Each year, we are able to provide career learning for our students.  Thursday, we had over 40 volunteers providing presentations about their careers to our 7th graders.

With spring just around the corner, we thought we'd share some photos of our greenhouse.  This is the result of great teachers and volunteers providing many hours over the summer.
