Procedures > Registration
During the school year, new families should go to the Educational Services Center (ESC) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to register your students with Sheri Schulte. If you have questions regarding ESC registration, please contact Sheri Schulte.
MORE INFO . . .
Students must live within the attendance boundary of the school in order to register. Open enrollment for student living outside the school's boundary is currently closed. For questions regarding open enrollment, call Jim Rotter.
Building Placement -- the key factors that are considered when assigning students to one of our four excellent elementary schools are class size and the demographic composition of the student body. The districts goal is to ensure all four elementary schools have similar student populations. College Communitys central campus allows us to balance both the student demographics and resources to the benefit of all children and building assignments are the critical step to this balancing effort.
Records of immunizations -- students must meet state immunization requirements. Bring proof of immunizations from family physician or a local health department to registration. The parent or guardian will transfer this information to a certificate of immunization and sign the certificate to verify its accuracy.
Emergency Card -- the parent or guardian will complete the card during registration. Bring information such as the student's birth date, address and home phone, mother and father's employer and work phone number, names of any medications taken by the student and any medical conditions.
Consent for exchange of information (if applicable) -- the parent or guardian must complete if a student is transferring from another school. It's helpful if the parent brings the name, address and phone number of the previous school.
Transcript or academic history (if applicable) -- Students transferring from another school should bring academic records. The school may also ask if the student has been in any special reading programs in their previous school (such as English as a Second Language, special reading programs, etc.).
In addition, if a child is entering kindergarten, a parent must provide:
Birth Certificate -- Parents should bring their child's birth certificate so a copy can be made for school records.
The child must be 5 years old by September 15th in order to start kindergarten.
ALTERNATIVE KINDERGARTEN
Alternative kindergarten is an optional half-day program designed to address the needs of our younger five-year olds. Students with birthdays between June 1 and September 15 are prospective alternative kindergarten students. All AK students must turn five by September 15.
Children in the Alternative Kindergarten class will:
Due to a limited number of openings, not all enrollment requests will be granted so parent will receive confirmation of their status.
Kindergarten Round-up Scheduled
Each spring Prairie plans for the next school year by sponsoring Kindergarten Round-up. This is an opportunity for parents to become familiar with the school district and complete required registration materials. It is also an opportunity for Prairie to address space and teacher needs based on the incoming class of Kindergarteners.
Parents will receive information regarding which building to attend at a later date. You will need to bring your child’s birth certificate to round up to verify that he or she will be five years old on or before September 15. In addition, all students will need a completed immunization card prior to next fall.
