First Annual Digital Literacy Night is a Success!

Prairie Ridge was hopping last night as students, parents and staff attended the first annual Digital Literacy Night sponsored by the PTO.  Our evening started with guest speaker, Officer Shannon Stokesberry (fondly called Police Pal Shannon by our students), reminding everyone the importance of keeping the lines of communication open between students and parents to keep students safe online.  Highlights of the evening included students showing their tech knowledge of AEA Online Resources in the IMC and the third graders showcasing their digital timeline. Special Education teacher, Stacy Pasker, demonstrated assistive technology with switches and iPads as well as free Chrome tools using voice to text.  Computer Tech Instructor, Lori Pleiness, showed a great tool by Common Sense Media (www.commonsensemedia.org) that parents can use to read reviews and recommendations of music, movies, games, apps, and websites. Common Sense even has an app that allows you to scan a barcode for a review before you buy it.   Our evening concluded with some brief words from Craig Barnum, a Ridge Parent and the district Director of Technology.

A special thanks to our Prairie Key Club students who volunteered their time and provided childcare during the event.
