Rose Biderman (7)
Mrs. Biderman's class is approximately eight seventh grade students. With her associate, Mrs. Traci Davis, Ms. B works with students in large and small groups, as well as individually.
Each student's academic day is "driven" by his/her IEP (Individual Education Plan). Thus each student's programming is individualized to meet his/her academic and behavioral need(s). The morning is spent working with small groups in direct reading instruction for an hour. We focus on decoding words, reading comprehension, and fluency. Enjoyment of the written word is always emphasized. The class, as a large group, also reads a novel after lunch for approximately thirty minutes.
We have math instruction in the morning as a large group and break into smaller groups based on the individual needs. Our afternoons are spent on social studies (with an emphasis on government/laws and how it affects us), science or health, and physical education. In addition, Mrs. Biderman and Mrs. Davis always try to incorporate life skills into the students learning.
