GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
The guidance and counseling program at Prairie Middle School provides services in order to make the middle school years a productive and rewarding experience for all students.

Services for all students include:

• constructive problem solving
• understanding strengths and limitations
• exploration and identification of interests
• planning and attaining realistic goals
• confidential counseling sessions
• individual and group sessions

The guidance office also coordinates information and services for PMS such as ADAPT, Advisor/Advisee, class concerns, conflict resolution, personal concerns, schedule concerns, and other school-wide activities.

The guidance information center provides books and pamphlets to help students with career and educational decision making. Educational assessments such as ITBS and other achievement and ability testing is administered by the guidance program.

HEALTH
A registered nurse is on the College Community campus throughout the school day. The nurse is a resource person and provides services which include:

• emergency situations
• chronic or serious illness
• contagious diseases
• health education
• promotion of positive health habits
• medication supervision
• prescribed health care procedures
• immunization procedures

MEDIA CENTER / LIBRARY
The Prairie Middle School library is available to students and staff as a support to the middle school curriculum and as a means of ensuring that all students become information literate. We strive to provide material to meet the needs of all students, to encourage competence in information problem solving and to encourage reading for pleasure. In addition to periodical, reference and general fiction and non-fiction collections, the media center has a web site connecting students to information sources outside the walls of Prairie Middle School.

AGENDA
The Agenda is a student organizer that also contains the Student Handbook so students have the calendar, schedules, staff, and policies and procedures of Prairie Middle School readily available.

Information on Extended Day (held before and after school) and on Summer School opportunities are examples of additional services listed in the Agenda.

SUPPORT SERVICES
The Grant Wood Educational Agency provides a variety of services and resources to Prairie Middle School via three divisions: Media Services, Educational Services, and Special Education.

Additional student support programs at Prairie Middle School include the Within Reach At-Risk program, the Extended Learning Program and Prairie Alternative Summer School (P.A.S.S.) program.
