At
Prairie Middle School we believe a strong relationship between parents, students,
and teachers is important. That is why we work hard to encourage parents to
communicate with their child as well as teachers and become involved in their
child's education. By emphasizing an environment where all groups work together
as a team we believe this enables all students to succeed. Prairie Middle School has a dedicated staff devoted to our district mission: "To ensure quality learning today for tomorrow." We are currently involved in integrating differentiation of instruction within our curriculum. This philosophy encourages instruction to meet the different needs of students. Geared toward content, process, and product, differentiated instruction is proactive, student centered, as well as a blend of whole class, small group, and individual instruction. Students are evaluated through respectful tasks, flexible grouping and ongoing assessment and adjustment.
Our Middle School has actively involved parents. Some classes offer a career day where parents are invited to come and share with students their own job experience. Other parents may request or be invited to a team meeting pertaining to the success of their child. It is not unusual to see parents and teachers involved in an open form of communication via e-mail, telephone calls, notes or letters. Finally, a large number of volunteers assist in supervising school activities such as the annual ski trip and dances.
Prairie Middle School students historically have shown an understanding for creating a positive learning environment. They not only show pride in what they are doing at school but take care of and are proud of the fine facilities they have to learn in. While many get involved in extra curricular activities there is still an attitude that "doing the best you can in school is important and will lead to high achievement." It is the reflections during students led conferences that "Success For All" stands out. Students, through a portfolio, share with parents the growth they have made.
Prairie Middle School is part of the College Community School District located in southwest Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We work hard to develop a positive relationship between students, parents, and teachers. By communicating among those groups we truly believe that, "All Students Can Succeed."
