Prairie View is one of four elementary schools in the College
Community School District. Prairie View serves students in grades PreK-4.
These students live in Cedar Rapids as well as many surrounding small communities,
including Shueyville, Swisher, Fairfax, Walford, and Ely. We provide many
unique and quality learning experiences for our students.
What makes
Prairie View unique?
- All students recite our school-wide belief statement each morning
during our televised announcements. The belief statement is:
“At Prairie View,
we believe in respect for people and property,
safety for everyone,
responsibility and teamwork, and
quality in all we do."
- Our school-wide behavior plan emphasizes positive
behavioral expectations for the common areas of the classroom, lunchroom,
hallway, restrooms, locker
area, and recess.
- Our emphasis on building positive relationships
between students and their peers reflects our desire to help our
students realize
that Prairie View is a safe learning environment. We use the Olweus
anti-bullying program to help students develop positive relationships
with others.
- Our strong faculty leadership team (Cadre) provides the leadership
for school improvement initiatives, which align with our district
and school student achievement goals.
- A strong parent network
provides support for
the school and the families of the school through organized
parent nights
and activities, volunteers, and monetary support for school
programs.
- Our quality instructional program emphasizes research-based
best practices in teaching and learning.
- Our learning environment
is safe
and supportive.
We focus on the individual academic, social, emotional,
and behavioral
needs of our students.
- At Prairie View, we believe our greatest responsibility
is providing
an engaging, meaningful education program to help our
students succeed in all
they do!
