The district is receiving conflicting feedback from parents and others about whether and how the district will handle this situation.     The Linn County Public Health has identified basic steps that can be taken to slow the spread of H1N1 Influenza. For information click here.
  • 8/14/09 - Proposed Special Education Service Delivery Plan
    Iowa Department of Education Rules require that the proposed plan be available for public comment. Persons wishing to do so should forward written comments to Board Secretary, College Community Schools, 401 76th Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. Deadline for submissions is Friday, August 14 at 4:00 PM.

  • 5/15/09 - District Track Meet Postponed
    Weather conditions have forced the postponement of the Iowa City West 4A Girls Regional/Boys District Track Meet today (5/15/09). The meet will be held tomorrow morning, May 16th, beginning at 10:00 am at IC West High School. Parking will be permitted only on the hard surface lots tomorrow. There is limited handicap parking available inside the gate.

    The Prairie 5K Run/Walk scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at Prairie High School has been cancelled. If you have any questions please contact Prairie High School physical education teacher John Lukasko at JLukasko@prairiepride.org.

  • 2/23/09 - Snow Make up Days - Last Day of School
    In order to give everyone as much notice as possible, we wanted to notify you of the snow make-up days. As of February 23, 2009 five school days have been cancelled due to poor weather. The dates below follow the order of make-up days as published in our school calendar.
    • June 3, 4, 5, March 6 and June 8 will all be used as make-up days as previously announced.
    • All other snow days (if any) will be made up on consecutive days starting June 9. Summer school will begin the second day after the final day of school.
    • Last Day of School
      Barring additional cancellations, the last day of school will be June 8. Classes will be dismissed at 11:20 am.

  • 1/30/09 - The Early Childhood Center (ECC) is hosting a soup supper Friday, January 30th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at Prairie Crest Elementary. Proceeds from the event will support a playground face-lift. For more information click here.

  • 1/20/09 - The 6th Grade Band and Choir Concert has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 20th at 7:00 PM in the Recital Hall at College Community.
  • The Week of 1/19/09 - High School Schedule
    • Tuesday, January 20 and Wednesday, January 21 will be regular 8 period days - 1st semester classes.
    • Thursday, January 22 and Friday, January 23 will be regular 8 period days - 2nd semester classes.
  • 1/19/09 - Transportation Advisory Committee Recommendation January 19, 2009
    The Transportation Advisory Committee will make its recommendation to the school board on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 7:00 pm in the Prairie High School study hall area. The recommendation was originally scheduled for the December board meeting but was postponed due to weather. Click here to review their recommendation.
  • 1/17/09 - Winter Formal Dance Cancelled
    The Winter formal dance, scheduled for Saturday January 17th has been cancelled.
  • 1/16/09 - Activity Announcement
    All activities scheduled for Friday, January 16, 2009 are on as scheduled.
  • 12/22/08 - ECC Announcements
    • The Retirement Party for Sandy Tomash has NOT been cancelled or postponed. It will be held today, December 22 as scheduled from 3:00 - 6:00 pm in the Prairie Crest Cafeteria.
    • The Butter Braid delivery has NOT been postponed. Parents are expected to pick up their Butter Braid delivery today in the Prairie Crest Cafeteria from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. If you are unable to pick up your delivery at this time, please call the ECC office to make other arrangements.”

  • 11/25/08 - Portfolio Experience Reflection Sheets due.
    All juniors need to complete the Portfolio Experience Reflection Sheet on their Junior Interview Experience by Tuesday, November 25.

    To all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade girls who were interested in the Prairie Powerhawks Volleyball Clinic:

    The start date for the Powerhawks Clinic has been postponed from Monday Nov. 3rd to Thursday Nov. 6th due to the Football Playoffs. Please come on Thursday, Nov. 6th to the middle school at 6pm and bring your registration.

    Tickets for the C.R. Prairie vs Bettendorf 1st round playoff football game are on sale Thursday-Monday, from 8:00-3:30 pm at Prairie High School in the School Store. Tickets are $6.00. You may also purchase your ticket at the gate on Monday, November 3. Game time is 7:00 pm at Bettendorf.

  • 9/16/08 - 5-6 Building Update
    The 5-6 Steering Committee has been meeting for over a year in preparation for the new 5-6 building that will open next fall. This committee, facilitated by Sue Skala and Karen Thorpe looks at physical space, use of space, materials needed, program and curriculum, scheduling and handbooks. Work accomplished to date is as follows:
    • Familiarity with Educational specifications
    • Documented current best practices in both 5th and 6th grade settings
    • Determined time specifications for instruction
    • Visited an intermediate school
    • Explored options for teaming structures and content integration
    • Surveyed current building classroom/facilities
    • Explored looping structures
    • Developed naming process/communication plan
