Volunteer Opportunities > Opportunities In District

Volunteers are an integral component of the educational team that makes Prairie an award winning school district. We have a number of volunteer activities that are ongoing and provide community members the opportunity to build a more personal relationship with our teachers and students. We also have volunteer opportunities that are less time intensive, but still provide valuable support.

If you would like to participate in a special way, please contact us. We can help place you in any building on campus in addition to the opportunities listed below.

Classroom Reading
Children benefit from special reading time with an adult, so we encourage volunteers to join us on a regular basis to make a difference in a child's life.

Library/Media Center
Volunteer assistance is critical to maintain and run quality libraries throughout the K-12 curriculum.

Elementary Classroom
Volunteers Our elementary classrooms are busy and dynamic so an extra set of hands is always appreciated. Volunteers can adopt a classroom and schedule a regular time to participate in the education of our youngest students.

Office Help
Every building office is increasingly busy and can always use help with phones, copying, or other clerical tasks.

Prairie Edge
Prairie Edge is a well-kept secret treasure for College Community volunteers. Prairie Edge is located on the Four Oaks campus but is a fully functioning Prairie School. The small self-contained classrooms serve K-12 students who benefit from a smaller, more structured classroom experience. In addition to traditional volunteer opportunities such as reading with students and being a classroom helper, the students at Prairie Edge benefit from volunteers willing to help the classroom teachers offer special programs such as art, music, or physical education.

Parent and Community Organizations
The following groups work to better College Community Schools in a variety of ways. You could work at a concession stand to raise money for athletics through the Booster Club, help at a PTO event, or provide an extra pair of hands during a music performance.

Junior Achievement
Each spring community volunteers visit our fourth grade classrooms to share a specially designed Junior Achievement curriculum on our economy.

High School Student Interviews
April 10, 11, 17 and 18

Each year, Prairie students leave the traditional school setting and visit the worksite/office of volunteer interviewers to test their interviewing skills. Every student takes Speech class during their junior year and the off-campus interview is a required assignment. Prairie will supply you with all the materials you will need. You can volunteer 1-3 hours.
